Jay AngoffJay Angoff is the Director of the Office of Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight for the Department of Health and Human Services. The Office provides national leadership in setting and enforcing standards for health insurance that promote fair and reasonable practices to ensure affordable, quality health coverage is available to all Americans. The office also provides consumers with comprehensive information on coverage options currently available so they may make informed choices on the best health insurance for their family. Prior to joining the Department, Angoff practiced law at Mehri & Skalet, PLLC where he concentrated his practice on insurance law and insurance-related issues. He formerly served as Insurance Commissioner of Missouri and chaired Missouri’s Commission on Health Insurance Reform. He has also served as Deputy Insurance Commissioner of New Jersey and special assistant for health insurance policy to New Jersey governor Jim Florio, as the Director of the Private Health Insurance Group at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, as counsel to the National Insurance Consumer Organization, and as Vice-President for Strategic Planning at Quotesmith.com, an internet insurance broker and quotation service. Mr. Angoff began his career as an antitrust lawyer with the Federal Trade Commission. He is a graduate of Oberlin College and Vanderbilt Law School.
